Flash mob against the dismantling of charging stations for electric vehicles

Content:

On 19 December, members of the #OdessaElectrocars eco-community of electric vehicles, with the support of the Ukrainian public, held a flash mob called #Honest Government = Clean Air! The aim of the campaign was to convey simple requirements to the local authorities: to eliminate corruption, to enshrine transparent conditions for the development of infrastructure for electric vehicles in the legislation and to provide an opportunity to breathe clean, non-polluted air.

The flash mob was joined by a member of the Verkhovna Rada, Artem Dmytruk, who also performs for a proper infrastructure for electric vehicles to appear in Odesa and for there to be no arbitrariness on the part of officials.

Let us recall how it all began

Odesa City Hall has announced a massive dismantling of charging stations by 18 January 2020, with orders posted on many charging stations in the city's Kyivskyi district. Such orders appeared even on disconnected and private stations located near residential buildings. And to make it look legal, they were labelled "street trade objects", the installation of which must be pre-approved by the mayor's office. If there is no agreement with the trade department and no passport of attachment, such an object is dismantled.

Electric vehicle users and members of the eco-society, who are constantly forced to improve the infrastructure for electric vehicles without the support of the authorities, were outraged by this decision. They decided to go to the mayor's office and talk to the authorities in person. It worked: a moratorium on the dismantling of charging stations was announced until 1 March 2020, and the authorities promised to develop regulations to regulate the issue.

What's next

Co-founder of EcoFactor Charge, Sergey Velchev, wrote on its Facebook page: "Today, we are in dialogue with the city authorities and are looking for options to properly regulate the provisions regarding existing charging stations, and we hope to formulate a plan and strategy for the sustainable development of electric mobility in the city of Odesa, where charging infrastructure is one of the most important challenges of today."

So far, a moratorium on dismantling has been achieved and there is great hope that clear regulations will be developed for electric vehicles to install charging stations and improve infrastructure. The next meeting with the authorities is scheduled for 24.01.2020. Follow the news on this page!
