After 10 years of downtime and bankruptcy, the American company General Motors announced about the launch of the Hummer electric SUV. The official presentation of the model will take place on 20 May 2020, and the first sales will start in 2022. Judging by the characteristics and teaser, it will be a tough guy.

In February 2010, a major American automaker, General Motors, officially stopped producing new cars and declared bankruptcy. The company failed to reach an agreement with the Chinese investor Tengzhong, who did not want to buy their last new Hummer. As a result, the world's only civilian vehicle assembled on the basis of military vehicles ceased its development.

10 years later, in 2020, General Motors announced its new development - an electric Hummer based on the legendary SUV. It will be produced at a retooling factory in Detroit under the new GMC brand. GM has already invested $3 billion to upgrade its production facilities and is going to spend another $2.3 billion on a joint battery production facility with LG Chem in Ohio.

The main features of the new Hummer:

  • engine power 1000 hp;
  • torque of 11,500 lb-ft;
  • acceleration to 100 km/h in 3 seconds.

The SUV will be available in a pickup truck format. This means that it will be able to compete with models such as the Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and Ford F-150.

General Motors has produced 3 lines of Hummers: H1, H2, H3. The first model appeared in 1992. These SUVs can still be found on the roads today. Moreover, some enthusiasts are converting them into electric vehicles. For example, in 2017, the Austrian company Kreisel created such a modification for Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was the first and only electric Hummer SUV.
